Previewing the Cowboys in week 8 – Philadelphia

253 yards.  The single game record for a Cowboys running back.  Not, just the rookie record, THE record.  A record previously held by Emmitt Smith and before that, Tony Dorsett.  That’s some pretty heady company for a rookie who didn’t even get the start in place of the injured Felix Jones.  It didn’t take long for him to show he was the guy for the job though.

Granted, that was against the winless and hapless St. Louis Rams.  This week will be much different, as the anticipated “Dallas Week” has arrived to Lincoln Financial Field and the Philly fan.  The Eagles are coming off a bye week after pulling off a much-needed win to end a four-game skid that placed the pre-season, self-proclaimed “Dream Team” at the edge of internal implosion.

Philadelphia comes in with the best rushing attack in the league.  They average over 5.7 yards per carry and 170 yards/game on the ground.  But they boast a –8-turnover margin or –1.33/game.  And those numbers fall squarely on the shoulders of Michael Vick He accounts for 8 INT and 6 fumbles (only losing two though.)  But 10 turnovers in only 6 games is a recipe for disaster for any team that was preseason pick to win its division.

After signing a free agent deal in the off-season, Vince Young proclaimed these Eagles to be the “Dream Team.”  The last team to self-proclaim as a “Dream Team” imploded under pressure from another Dallas team, the Mavericks.  Speaking about the frenzied off-season acquisitions and the “lack” of a big-name signing by the Cowboys, Dallas Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan, said: “These are proven players, and that’s what we need,” Ryan said. “I don’t know if we win the all-hype team, I think that might have gone to somebody else, but we’re going to beat their *** when we play them.”

That’s enough to get me excited to see this matchup on Sunday night in Prime Time.

I came up with my top five factors for this game and came up with my final score predictions.  Granted, I used the ESPN NFL Game Predictor tool, but my thoughts don’t mirror the prediction given by ESPN.

Red Zone Efficiency

ESPN predicted a 4 point win for the Eagles 24-20.  I don’t feel this will be the result.  The game will be tight throughout and Vick will make a mistake trying to win the game with yet another turnover.  The Cowboys will head down the field and score a final touchdown to win the game 27-24.

See you all Sunday night.
