BYU Player Profile – O’Neill Chambers

As dedicated and loyal Cougar fans, we are committed to keeping tabs on BYU during this long off-season of no football.  Check in weekly to see who we are profiling that week.

O’Neill Chambers  #15

Position: Defensive Back

Class: Senior

Height: 6-2 Weight: 211

Hometown: Harmony, Florida

You may remember Chambers from a few years ago.  He was the young freshman who brazenly guaranteed he would return some kicks for scores for BYU as it hadn’t been done for many years.  He never delivered.  What I remember of him is he was quick and had good hands, but was prone to fumble and didn’t seem to ever want to come across the middle for a catch.  Then the trouble started and he got booted from the team.  But unlike many players in that situation, Chambers stuck it out and made an impression on head coach Bronco Mendenhall for his desire to right the wrongs and he’s been given a second chance to help out on defense.  He’s far from being “back” but he’s making strides and Bronco has been happy with his progress but unwilling to commit to anything just yet with the mercurial player.  If O’Neill can manage to find a way to help this team this season it will be one of Bronco’s greatest coaching victories.
