BYU Player Profile – Taysom Hill

   Taysom Hill

   Position: Quarterback   Class: Freshman

   Height: 6’2″ Weight: 210

   Hometown: Pocatello, ID

Okay, so why in the world would I want to write about the likely third string quarterback coming out of spring practices you ask.  Well, I’ll tell you.  This former All-Idaho football player from Pocatello impressed enough that he was recruited and signed on to play for the Jim Harbaugh-led Stanford Cardinal before serving his LDS mission to Sydney, Australia.  That makes him a pretty smart kid as Stanford doesn’t lessen its scholastic requirements to play football as most other schools do.  Also, he is the ideal fit for the new quarterback mold that head coach Bronco Mendenhall and offensive coordinator Brandon Doman are recruiting now to lead BYU at the most visible position on the team.  I saw him in person at the scrimmage game held in March at LaVell Edwards Stadium and he was impressive in difficult situations.  With a porous offensive line and no 1st team offensive skill players on the field with him, he was being rushed time and again by the likes of Ziggy Ansah and kept escaping out of the pocket to make big plays.  I doubt he will see much time, if any, on the field this season (which in my opinion, is a shame), but he should be in a good position to make a solid bid for the starter in 2013 and hopefully, he can just soak up everything he needs to step on the field and be successful.  And should he make an appearance on the field in 2012, just keep an eye on him.
